JOHN LENNON - WATCHING THE WHEELS

Song of the day:

Liam Gallagher Starts Band With Other Members of Oasis Who Aren't Noel

friday, november 13 Pitchfork

In the middle of an Italian radio interview aimed at promoting his Pretty Green clothing line, former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher revealed that he's currently working on music with all of his old Oasis band mates not named Noel. (Via Billboard.) Their new band, however, won't be called Oasis. "Oasis is done," he reiterated, expressing a long-overdue and now factual sentiment.
In the interview, he also mentioned that his new band should start gigging "in a couple of months" and that the end of Oasis climaxed with a guitar smashing session between him and his brother. (Via NME.) Would you expect anything less?

TIME: Five Things the U.S. Can Learn from China

Feature article on the latest issue of Time Magazine:

I highly recommend the above read, which is a rather concise and thought-provoking piece.
In a very broad sense, if taking US and China as 2 objective categories based on the article's 5 points, which category would most accurately reflect you?

The 5 points as put forth by the author Bill Powell:
*(five things the US can learn from China) are -

1. Be Ambitious
nation/country building has to involve a mentality in the people that goes beyond looking at their own backyard. the country, is your backyard. involvement. pride and ownership.

2. Education Matters
"It all starts with the emphasis families put on the importance of education. That puts pressure on the government to deliver a decent system."

3. Look After The Elderly
parents give all to raise children, children grow up to in turn care for parents. transference/ continuation of cultural values, knowledge, piety. and i think this idea of "roots" is significant here beyond traditions (which on the flipside ostracizes - within vs without).

4. Save More
"Now that it's pouring, in other words, American households have decided to save for a rainy day."

5. Look Over the Horizon
to extend visions beyond myopic self centred scope, hard work of today to give your future generations a chance. that is so loaded with a heart quivering moving sense of stoicism i'm lacking the english language to express. perhaps in mandarin i'd need all of, 2 words.

INDIE at my beginning

Today's post is a stroll back to my early years listening to indie-pop / twee bands. The amazing thing about the connectivity in this time and age... I am able to locate music videos or live performances which could only be a figment of my dreams back in the past!
So here, let's hold hands, slow down, and reminisce for a bit...

Beulah - If We Can Land A Man On The Moon... (1999)

Apples In Stereo - Benefits of Lying (With Your Friend) (1999)

Belle & Sebastian - Is It Wicked Not To Care (1998)

Yo La Tengo - My Little Corner of The World (2003)
this is a sweet live performance.. simple real and honest. whistling, even!
We always knew that we'd find someone like you
So welcome to our little corner of the world

A SUNNY DAY IN GLASGOW - ASHES GRAMMAR

 Currently enjoying:

...and this:
IMA ROBOT - Time Is The Cure
I can't find the music video for this track (there probably isn't one out yet), it's once again, a "video" of a still image, just so to share the song with you guys :)

You said I was the dirtiest man you'd ever met
And then I told you I don't like your pets
You moved in the next day and we made love
Then you sneezed on my bed sheets and we laughed
And you said, "I was you, and you were me."
And I said, "What selfish people we must be."

Is this what they write those movies about?
Is this the adventure you're talking about?
Well spin me round and spin me inside and out
Today profess your love for when we love a million more
Time is the only cure

Well the years slipped like napkins through my hands
Those days were hard to get me in you understand
And we danced to our LPs at the record speed of 45
But then your record skipped and our dances didn't jive
And you said, "You were you, and I was me."
Well I said, "Well I guess you better leave."

'Cause this was not what they write those movies about
Well spin me round and spin me inside and out
Today profess our love for when we love a million more
Time is the only cure

Don't need to be sad
We're gonna win
You know that I love you
You know that I love you
You know that I love you

'Cause this is what I thought they write those movies about
This is the adventure that you're talking about
You spin me round and spin me inside and out
Well when the world ends don't just scream and shout
Today profess my love for when I love a million more
Time is the only cure

WEEKEND twinkles

First of all, how was your weekend?

Mine had sushi + shoe shopping for him + movie date + pop corn + exercises for my back (lots.) + choresss + birthday party for bigK + erdinger whilst watching football (my eyes bleed. oh) but “we” won and it’s great!

I may be slightly late on this one, but I only recently heard Michael Buble’s “I Just Haven’t Met You Yet”. Now, I won’t say much about the music video, but the song itself made me feel slightly reminiscent of days where one was hopeful of just meeting that sparkly Other, someday. I’m fortunate that I’ve found mine, but to everyone else out there waiting for their other half to appear, I think it’s romantic J

THE ANTLERS

Led by Peter Silberman, The Antlers have been compared to bands such as Arcade Fire. In both their music and lyrics, it’s not difficult to inhale their styles of turning fatalism (and life) into something uplifting, stoic even. In The Antlers first full-length album, Hospice, the theme is heavy and rather dark in a depressive manner. But as explained by Silberman himself in an interview, “there’s this weird hope in it that you can’t really put your finger on”. I find it so exceptionally beautiful. Heavy and depressing, but with a positivity arising from it all.

The album, much like those of Explosions In The Sky, comes together to form a tapestry… unfolding a moving tale. Here’s a sample track from the album:
