recently someone brought to my attention, or rather, commented succinctly that he's not as into post-rock music as i am. it was just odd, simply because it was so obvious, and yet i never really categorised it myself. it IS true that post-rock as a genre, has been gaining grounds with my music preference since the year 1999 and culminating in 2004/05/06, and it has sorta plateau at its peak since then.
i suppose it began with Tortoise's second album, 1996's Millions Now Living Will Never Die, which i only picked up in 1998. the indie ambient experimental sounds drew me in and would get me transfixed for ages. on with more tuneful Stereolab, Laika, Sea and Cake.
gradually the next wave of indie post-rock saw further growth in its sounds, and bands like Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Explosions In The Sky, gave greater depths and wider expanses in their music landscape! The rebellious riot tones of rock as we remember it takes a backseat in the theme for post-rock groups. With fusions of various genres, post-rock manages to create an androgynous and softer means of subversion. It is akin to the use of 'rock instrumentation' for non-rock purpose, which i guess, worked out really well for me.
back in the beginning whilst exploring the genre, someone (else) once proclaimed mogwai is shite, now that i know better it's too bad i won't have the chance to clarify if that was a statement of conviction or parody.

made him brekkie consisting of heartstopping bacon grilled to a tanned brown crisp, 2 eggs - sunny side up, buttered toasts and cuppa coffee.
i had my own (!) homemade yoghurt with cereal and dried mulberry fruitbits (from Turkey!) and cuppa coffee.
it's now 2.5 hours after, and he just bought me my 2nd cup of kopitiam kopi, enroute back from buying the News Paper from the neighbourhood.
kopitiam kopi tastes good sipped through a straw. probably bad for your health, melting plastic and all (??), but yea, i've always liked it that way!
